  • Wilner names Enfield midseason Coach of the year, Mobley best frosh

Big blow to some, but perhaps the most tuned-in reporter in the conference has tabbed Enfield the conference's midseason coach of they year.

    https://www.mercurynews.com/2021/02/...arizona-state/

    Best coach: USC’s Andy Enfield.

We gave serious consideration to Stanford’s Jerod Haase, UCLA’s Mick Cronin and Arizona’s Sean Miller, but Enfield is the current call based on USC’s surprising success: We didn’t envision the Trojans sitting one game off the pace (loss column) as February arrived, especially given the injury to point guard Ethan Anderson.

I'll try to post more of these types of stories as I come across them, given that this is a USC basketball board.

Cronin gets my vote for mid-season. Hoping Enfield can be the Pac 12 coach of the year.

Ah yes. CAE must be doing something right to get this type of praise from the media, right?

Also note that Evan is our only all-Pac12 first, second or third team player. I thought some here said we have a talent advantage over most teams.

Depends on how you look at it. Evan is our most consistent guy, but we do have multiple other guys who have shown they can take over games on an occasional basis.

If you took Evan away from this team, our talent level would be perceived as being about the same level as Stanford’s without Zaire.

Outside of Evan we have two top 50 guys and a bunch of grad transfers. I like this team and its various pieces a lot, but from a raw talent perspective, without Evan we are behind UCLA, Arizona, Oregon and ASU.

100% agree. Without Evan, we would be no better then OSU or WSU and near the bottom of the conference IMO.
