  • USC kicking ass in the Pac-12 rankings

This was before last night's game, but I doubt a whole lot changed. As it stands, this USC team is pretty much as dominant as a USC team has been at the conference level since I can remember.

    Scoring offense -- Second
    Scoring margin - First
    Field Goal Percentage - First
    Scoring defense - Second
Field Goal Percentage Defense - First
    Rebounding Offense - First
    Rebounding Margin - Second
    Blocked Shots - First
    Offensive Rebounds - First
    Defensive Rebounds - First
    Offensive rebound % - First
    Overall win percentage - First

Awful at free throws and steals, middle of the pack in 3 point percentage and 3 point defense. But otherwise, this is a team that -- for a USC team -- is pretty damn good statistically when compared to its peers.

Given these numbers, it's still kind of a remarkable that people have been making claims like "our offense is bad" and "Enfield can't coach."

Yes, we were completely dominant last night against a team missing 3 starters. We should start planning a parade.

That same team beat Arizona and UCLA without those starters. We beat them at home.

You seem really bitter over that win and the fact that USC is at or near the top in so many conference categories.

Just admit you were wrong and move on. No one's going to care.

No, he’s just doing a good job coaching my favorite basketball team. Seeing as how I run a message board that covers his team, it makes sense to point out how well the team is doing.

Guess you’re not going to admit you were wrong. Are you Kevin O’Neill’s favorite bartender or something?

Seriously...I'm beginning to wonder if you'd rather be right than have us win. I've been very critical of Enfield at times, but you can't deny this team is playing well and he's done a good job this season.

Actually I WAS celebrating last night like it was a USC BB parade!! Last time we won at Maples Pavillion was like 8 years ago!!
You think ppl remember in 2 or 3 years that Stanford was down some starters?? Next man up dude!!!
That's why you gotta have your recruiting game up to speed.
Everyone is gonna need depth sooner or later.
Remember when Stanford shocked the USC football team and Coach Carroll with a back up QB??
The Cardinal was like a 40 pt underdog in that game!!

Terrible post on your part my brother.
Sounds like the guy who's gonna claim that the PAC12 was down this year and that's why USC finished first.
Almost makes me think you want us to lose to the Ruins this Saturday.
              FTFO!!!!!!
              ✌✌✌

P.S. I'm glad we have someone like MeltonNotHelton to counter all the negative BS that ppl post on here about CAE, the players and the program.
See you guys after the next loss.
I know you're anxious to put up your next diatribe.

P.S.S. I'm cool with some tit-for-tat and constructive criticism but man some of you guys need to keep that Helton anger on the football board!!!!

The Pac 12 is down this year. I doubt anyone, including us, will make the sweet 16.

I'll take that bet. This a weird season where out of conference games were few. The BYU win was impressive, and the UConn loss wasn't bad so I'm not sure why you're so down on a team that is 14-3.

Globe, but there's the rub. I want to see us in March Madness throwing everything but the kitchen sink to win a tournament game. Hey maybe we go on a run and surprise the nation. Or better yet, Evan Mobley becomes "Never Nervous" Pervis Ellison and leads us to the championship game ❤💛✌🏀

Why do people have such a hard time distinguishing between being a big fan of team and thinking that team is really good? They have nothing to do with each other.

My contention about Enfield is that he's not a good enough coach to make into the perennial top 25 program we'd all like to be. This is his 8th year - do we seem like a perennial top 25 program yet? If I turn out to be wrong about that I'll admit it and I'll be very happy.

I think the disconnect is expectations. What about USC basketball makes you think it should consistently be in the top 25 every year. We have no fans at our games and are the number two program in our city. Who’s taking this job that would make it a top 25 program every year?

I don't think we should be in the top 25 every year. We'll probably never be that type of program because, as you say, we don't have much of a fan base. But it's something we should always shoot for.

Globe, this makes no sense. You don't think USC should be in the top 25 every year but you're also complaining that Enfield hasn't made USC a top 25 program? Which is it man?

Sure it would be cool to have USC have annual runs into Elite 8 or Final Four but a couple of factors prevent us imo from getting a coach to fulfill that scenario

1.) Even in decent years, USC fans dont show up. I remember going to Galen early thinking I would get the worse seats in the student section but it turned out nobody was interested in seeing OJ Mayo or Demar Derozan play. A really good coach wants to go where the program is all in getting the most of it. Galen attendance is probably closer to some attendance at Drew League games at times.

2.) I hate to use this word but USC comes off as trying to be "woke" and a wanna be Stanford. Sometimes it feels like athletics is a second thought at USC. But if I'm hoping what Bohn is really like, he can change the atmosphere and direction at Galen. He did make the basketball atmosphere at Cincinnati a lot better

3.) USC comes off as cheap (though I think the Donte hire is their best investment so far). I dont think they would get the brinks truck to get a coach like Chris Beard

4.) Speaking of Chris Beard, I always wanted him here but I have been told he has baggage. It's from a person I trust. If USC wouldn't touch Meyer, I doubt they touch Beard

5.) basketball at a lot of schools, is a low revenue program. I doubt USC will invest in something heavily when the ROI is not as great as compared to football (whose cash flow I wouldn't be surprised to be declining).

I'll be on a long ass phone call with Canada tax agencies so if I dont response to your comments immediately, its not me being passive aggressive or anything. Looking forward to your take and others. I'm sure some of the above info I posted is closer to opinion than fact.

Everytime I see that P12 ad about "real champions understand winning is about breaking glass ceilings and color barriers" I wince a little. Look I'm all for equality in whatever way you wanna do it, but it seems to me that the best players wanna go to where their winning games - not where their pronouns are in their bios.

The good seats are given to big donors that don't even show up for the games and the past administrations at USC could care less if they don't. That's a great strategy to use to make your arena always look empty and coming in last in attendance every year.

I know in the future if Bohn comes up to the Bay for the athletics tour I will talk to him about possibly having the students occupy sections 118 and 117, the sections behind the visiting team. I feel the atmosphere in that area would be a lot more lively. Wait too many visiting fans in that section. I would know because FastEddie and I sat there.

This is really moving the goal posts now. The main goal for USC basketball every year is to make the NCAA tournament. This year will make 4 out of the last 6. Best in program history.

Rankings are arbitrary. Do you think top 25 programs just become so overnight?

Just curious, but do you see the glass as 1/8th empty? To win a championship, you basically need to beat the bottom half of your conference, and split with the upper half. So far, the team has done that with the exception of the Oregon St game. Also, the usual mantra is win at home split on the road. So, with the home loss to Colorado was offset by the Arizona sweep (the only road trip that didn't contain a postponed game). Not really sure what you are whining about.
