  • USCBasketball.com needs your help! Please read!

I want to thank everyone for hanging in there and coalescing around our new home here at USCBasketball.com. I think this site has great potential to be a vibrant and active location year round.

Indeed, my goal is to turn this website into a place that is worthy of the program that we all want USC basketball to be.

However, let's face it: Basketball isn't in USC's DNA. Not at the university level and not at the fan level. There is a history of underinvestment by the administration and by fans in this program's future.

Let's put an end to some of that right now. We can't control or influence what happens on the administration side, but we CAN influence what happens on the fan side of the equation. That means that this program needs an online community that is active, supportive, loyal and constructive. It needs an online equivalent of the "Cameron Crazies". It needs to be more than a site for just the few die-hards. It must also be for those USC-curious observers, potential recruits, college basketball junkies, and disconnected alumni, so they can visit and say "Now that is a place that really knows and loves its basketball program."

    Let's build that here.

I plan on going all-in to make this happen. I am working on bringing you fresh and interesting content while staying on top of all the latest when it comes to Trojan hoops. Further, I want to use this site to help expand USC's footprint on the college basketball world.

There's been a lot of discussion about where USC's program should be, and very little discussion about where our fan support should be. For years, it's been a chicken/egg proposition. The thought was that a winning program would bring fans. Well, we have a winning program now and the fans still aren't coming. So things need to change. That's where I need your help.

I need your help to make this a great online community. That means active participation and discussion. It means letting your USC friends know about us and linking to us when possible. It means offering information and tidbits about players and recruits or alumni, if you have them.

In return, as mentioned, I promise to invest in this site to make it as good as it can be. You won't see me abandon the site out of frustration or boredom or because I don't like the coach. The staff and I are in for the long haul. One day we may not be in charge, but I will make sure USCBasketball.com lives on in perpetuity. To this point, I think USC basketball still has a lot of growth potential. Let's face it: USC football is not what it used to be and football itself seems to be in relative decline on the west coast. That's not the case for basketball -- Los Angeles is arguably the basketball capital of the world. USC is right at the epicenter of all of it and, thanks to Andy Enfield, we now have a solid foundation set for this program. It's time to start building up. Let's be the ones who got in early.

One other point: As the administrator, it's my job to see the big picture. I am going to be generally supportive of the program, win or lose, but I will offer constructive criticism when called for. I encourage your criticism to be as constructive as possible, too, though I understand that sometimes we just need to vent. And that's okay. I'm sure I will join you once in a while in that process.

    Thanks again and Fight On!
    The Admin

Count me in. I've been extremely annoyed about how few fans care about our basketball program. Would love to help out in any way shape or form to grow the community. Fight on!

I would say my USC Basketball/Football interest is equal. I'm a Galen Founder, Ryan Francis Scholarship donor, and passionate basketball fan of all levels. When we've got a program on a steady upward trajectory - even better.

So glad someone is so dedicated to this board. If there is one thing that has disturbed me over the years is why we couldn't get behind building a BB program similar to the football. You are right that it isn't in USC'S DNA and that is sad because we are indeed in a talent hotbed in So. Cal. I will gladly contribute and support in any way I can.

Couple of things to consider. When Brian (AKA the Sleuth) had uschoops.com at it's zenith, it was because he was able to create a relationship with the coaching staff. He got his nickname from Tim Floyd because he noticed that Brian was at every local AAU event where members of the USC staff might be in attendance. He eventually made friends with Floyd, where Floyd would actually provide him with inside info as long as Brian promised not to disclose this information before he was told it was okay to do so. Obviously, uschoops was started during the Henry Bibby era because Brian's original handle was BibbyBaby. But he never was able to get as close to Bibby as he was Floyd. When Floyd was forced out, Brian became disillusioned, and the quality of the site began to suffer to the point where he gave up control to others. He is still a huge SC Basketball fan, as shown by his twitter feed.

I am really glad to see someone finally pick up the baton and try to get a full site for USC Basketball running again. I have been a fan of this school since Westphaul was a junior. I have lived and died with this program since HS. I'm not an alum although I came close with the baseball program, but then realized I was never going to play pro and was better suited as a coach. Instead, I went to MSAC where vaunted USC alum Art Mazmanian was the coach. I learned a ton from that man, not the least of which was how to work umpires.

I am in the twilight of my carreer as a web developer. I am an expert in databases (mostly SQL server), Javascript, Jquery, HTML5 and CSS. So I am willing to help, but not sure how much help I can be. I have also some experience in writing sports articles, but it's been years since I interviewed anyone. I'm probably not very good at being a HS basketball scout (baseball is another story). But I would love to lend a hand there as well, if needed.

Just let me know how I can help. This is the development I have been waiting to here for a long time.

Thank you so much. I really believe Coach Enfield really has us on the upswing. With the right kind of support from the Administration and the fans this could be just the beginning of something special for all the reason you describe.

Thank you Brian aka Bibby Baby aka The Sleuth for your start of a basketball board (USCHoops) and many years of support. Some of you may not have been around in the early years when he was the mainstay at summer league, feeding us info on new players and progress of others. He also organized meet-ups off to the side of the main entrance to the Sports Arena before games. He organized meet-ups at restaurants for important away games. He made up T-shirts to celebrate the new basketball seasons. He is also a talented photographer and contributed many of his shots to the site. Thank you for all of your contributions!

And MNH, thank you for taking up the gauntlet when interest in an SC Basketball Board seemed to be on the decline. SC Basketball has been a series of ups and downs; each time we seemed to be getting over the top to respectability there always seemed to be a set-back. I loved many of the Raveling Teams, the players on the Bibby Teams, and when Floyd came in I thought we had finally found the answer. However, I am now as optimistic about the program as I have ever been. I think we have a very hard working coach who is growing along side his players, has remarkable eye for talent, exceptional recruiting skills, and can keep us contenders in the conference.

Thank you MNH; you and the team have my support.

Been following since I was a student in the very early 60’s. Played a lot of basketball at the gym between classes. Lots of good memories.

Long time USC BB fan dating back to Bill Hewitt days so I go back a few years..more than most here except a few. Did undergrad and dental school here and went to most if not all the games. Became Galen Founder in 2006 so I am "invested" so to speak. Count me in....

I'm also a long-time lurker and infrequent poster going back to the BibbyBaby days around 1997 when I was a teenager. I used to love reading BibbyBaby, SCLarry, TroJon, etc. and the SayNo game reports during the summer. The enthusiasm of the board always ebbed and flowed with how the team was doing, and as we all know if's always been one step forward, two steps back with this program. I was a freshman at SC during the Elite 8 year, and by the time I was a senior we were a bad team.

I am cautiously optimistic with what Enfield is doing. He has recruited better talent than any coach before him and I give him credit for that. If he had a solid homecourt advantage I do believe we could be a perennial top-25 team. I'm eager to see what Bohn and Sosna can do in that department.
