I want to thank everyone for hanging in there and coalescing around our new home here at USCBasketball.com. I think this site has great potential to be a vibrant and active location year round.
Indeed, my goal is to turn this website into a place that is worthy of the program that we all want USC basketball to be.
However, let's face it: Basketball isn't in USC's DNA. Not at the university level and not at the fan level. There is a history of underinvestment by the administration and by fans in this program's future.
Let's put an end to some of that right now. We can't control or influence what happens on the administration side, but we CAN influence what happens on the fan side of the equation. That means that this program needs an online community that is active, supportive, loyal and constructive. It needs an online equivalent of the "Cameron Crazies". It needs to be more than a site for just the few die-hards. It must also be for those USC-curious observers, potential recruits, college basketball junkies, and disconnected alumni, so they can visit and say "Now that is a place that really knows and loves its basketball program."
Let's build that here.
I plan on going all-in to make this happen. I am working on bringing you fresh and interesting content while staying on top of all the latest when it comes to Trojan hoops. Further, I want to use this site to help expand USC's footprint on the college basketball world.
There's been a lot of discussion about where USC's program should be, and very little discussion about where our fan support should be. For years, it's been a chicken/egg proposition. The thought was that a winning program would bring fans. Well, we have a winning program now and the fans still aren't coming. So things need to change. That's where I need your help.
I need your help to make this a great online community. That means active participation and discussion. It means letting your USC friends know about us and linking to us when possible. It means offering information and tidbits about players and recruits or alumni, if you have them.
In return, as mentioned, I promise to invest in this site to make it as good as it can be. You won't see me abandon the site out of frustration or boredom or because I don't like the coach. The staff and I are in for the long haul. One day we may not be in charge, but I will make sure USCBasketball.com lives on in perpetuity. To this point, I think USC basketball still has a lot of growth potential. Let's face it: USC football is not what it used to be and football itself seems to be in relative decline on the west coast. That's not the case for basketball -- Los Angeles is arguably the basketball capital of the world. USC is right at the epicenter of all of it and, thanks to Andy Enfield, we now have a solid foundation set for this program. It's time to start building up. Let's be the ones who got in early.
One other point: As the administrator, it's my job to see the big picture. I am going to be generally supportive of the program, win or lose, but I will offer constructive criticism when called for. I encourage your criticism to be as constructive as possible, too, though I understand that sometimes we just need to vent. And that's okay. I'm sure I will join you once in a while in that process.
Thanks again and Fight On!
