  • USC National Rankings discussion

We will update this as we go along.
    • Net Rankings: 15th
    • Coaches: 18th
    • College Basketball Power Index: 19th
    • RPI: 14th (down from 13th)
    • KenPom: 13th
    • Haslametrics: 24th (up from 26th)
    • Jeff Goodman: 22nd (neutral)
    • Gary Parrish: 13th
    • Matt Norlander (CBS) Power Rankings: 5th
    • Seth Davis: NR
    • Andy Katz (Power 36): 15th (up from 16)
    • AP Top 25: 17th (updated 2-15-21)
    • Jerry Palm Bracket Projections (CBS): 7 seed Hinkle 2 vs 10 seed Drake
    • Bracketology: #4 Region 3 vs #13 UNCG
    • Jeff Borzello ESPN + Power Rankings: 16th
    • Previous ranking: In the waiting room
    • This week: vs. Arizona State (Wednesday), vs. Arizona (Saturday)
    • We briefly addressed this in our Wooden Award roundtable last week, but Evan Mobley isn't getting nearly enough attention for the season he is having. Mobley has been the best freshman in college basketball, and I'm not sure it's close. He has been the best player in the Pac-12 this season; he is one of the best interior defensive players in the country; and Saturday's 20-point, 11-rebound, six-block performance against Washington State was his third 20-point, 10-rebound, five-block effort of the season. Mobley is the primary reason USC is a top-10 defensive team and one of the toughest 2-point defenses in the country. The Trojans have won 12 of their past 13 games and are rising in every metric despite lacking a true marquee win.

He’s gone off the rails since HRC lost in 2016

Isn't he Lonnie Davis's son? That would explain it.

@bouldertobirmingham yes & 100% correct. Didn’t hesitate to click the “unfollow” button on twitter.

Wow, honestly I'd be intimidated going up against UNC as a #6 in the first round.

Weird to be the favorites in that matchup, that's a good program and would make a good game.

They have a very good / physical front line but I have seen some brackets that have us as high as a 3 seed right now.

His rankings are laughable, pure click bait-esque, except on Twitter. He just wants to create a conversation, no teams (save Gonzaga) from the West. He has earned the lack of respect he is given from me.

I don't know anything about this guy on nbadraft.net, but I was checking to see where they had Evan listed for the draft and came across one of their writers' top 16. He has USC listed as 7.

                7. USC (15-3)
Last week I put the Trojans in the Power 16 despite the team not being ranked nationally. They confirmed my suspicion that they had the best team in the conference by beating nationally-ranked UCLA by nearly 20 points. USC’s three losses have come by a combined 15 points.

Joe Lunardi has us as a 4 now playing Winthrop. UCLA a 7.

Kansas remains the clear preseason No. 1, but the Boilermakers have slipped in behind the Jayhawks as a probable repeat 1-seed with revenge on their minds.

Jerry Palm has us #7 now overall. Huge road trip to keep this momentum going.

Last week: No. 15 | Record: 15-3. The Trojans barged into the AP rankings this week, but I'd argue this group still isn't getting the attention it warrants. USC has high-level wins against BYU on a neutral court, at Arizona and at Stanford in addition to a home win over UCLA. I'm not saying this is a No. 3 seed as of today, but it's clearly a No. 4 at worst. A 3-1 mark in Quad 1 with only a couple more top-end games left on the schedule. This looks like the Pac-12's best team.

Looking in detail at all the rankings we should be higher than many other schools in a lot of polls. It means if we keep winning, we should continue to move up despite the east coast bias. As a team we have the ability to improve our play on the court... specifically controlling turnovers and FTs. We also have a few guys who we know who can play better. Ethan is getting there. Drew needs to find his earlier season form and not try to do too much. Max has been great on D but a turnover and shot selection nightmare. I don’t think we have seen the best from this team and we are still winning. All great signs. Keep taking it a game at a time. Eaddy has become a great 1b to Evan’s 1a.

Yes. I just don’t understand & probably never will how a school like Loyola-Chicago (10th) is rated ahead of us in the KenPom polls. They lost to both Wisconsin + Richmond. Here is Loyola Chicago’s profile in comparison to ours.

                        Loyola Chicago
                        Q1: 1-1
                        Q2: 3-2
                        Q3: 3-0
                        Q4: 9-0
                        vs1-50: 0-1
                        vs51-100: 2-1
                        vs101-150: 3-1
                        vs151-200: 2-0
                        vs201-250: 7-0
                        vs251-300: 1-0
                        vs300+: 1-0

                        USC
                        Q1: 3-0
                        Q2: 3-2
                        Q3: 7-1
                        Q4: 4-0
                        Vs1-50: 2-2
                        vs51-100: 5-0
                        vs101-150: 5-1
                        vs151-200: 4-0
                        vs201-250: 1-0
                        vs251-300: 0-0
                        vs300+: 0-0

no clue how all of these advanced stats work against our favor haha but I am in the majority that if we continue to win, everything will take care of itself. I still think our best basketball is yet to be played. We have yet to have that “complete game” that some have been asking for but the one constant is that our defense has continued to show up. Hope Drew can shake off his shooting slump, he can be just as effective as Tahj has been for us.

That conference has a very odd schedule.
