  • Good Preview for this week...

Ruben gives a good preview of the games coming up this week:

    https://wearesc.com/looking-at-drew-...zona-previews/

Like myself, he is cautiously optimistic given that we are better than these teams on paper but can't shake the feeling that a "bump in the road" is coming any day now.

ASU is 145th in the NET so it would be horrible to take that loss, which makes me more worried for tomorrow's game than Saturday's.

My confidence stems from the fact that I don't think either of these teams are capable of shutting down Mobley (or his brother for that matter). In the second half, notwithstanding stellar shooting efforts from either opponent, we should be able to blow these games wide open.

    Fight On!

We actually had a big lead against them evaporate and I think they took the lead for a brief while too. So Enfield should remind them not to take them lightly.

ASU is a pesky group of ultra quick guards who are going to put tremendous pressure on our guards. This is where Peterson is really needed as the third ball handler. He is very important here as his height lets him pass over the press. If we limit our turnovers tomorrow we should do well. Got to get the ball inside and pound the glass.

Yeah - you reminded me of that game, and it all came back to me. I'm going to need therapy all over again.

what happened with drew is that the ball was no longer in his hands. he was super effective, especially as a facilitator, by and large when ethan was out. as ethan got his feet wet, drew's minutes running the offense dropped. oregon state was the 1st game in which ethan played at least half the game. he finished with 22 minutes, drew with 23.

usually a kid struggles to get his own shot and buries that wide-open 17-footer. that aint drew. he's the other way around. he thinks too much. he's much better on the move (a way to neutralize that skeptical brain), penetrating and dishing or dropping in that runner....and coming off screens. just another aspect of swiss army drew that makes him a walking anomaly of sorts.

but rich is right. aside from the stanford game drew's shooting percentage has been AWFUL. and that started at osu.
and he's right that we cannot make a deep run without drew locking it up. the byu game showed us the potential of this team. and the team that took the floor that day could beat anyone in the country (probably need a bad game from the big 2 teams but the point remains). drew and evan running 1-2 punch that day were nearly unstoppable.

Well said. Ethan has improved his game a lot, but it's still a head-scratcher when he picks up his dribble. He's a point guard. ..an undersized one at that. He continues to pick up his dribble, and it always leads to unnecessary pressure. And let's be honest - Ethan's not the best distributor. I wish Drew got 10 mpg handling the ball. The way Ethan has been stroking the ball on set shots, maybe running him at the 2 for a rotation or two might make sense...?

Idk, SC MOJO, I feel like I've been watching Drew lose it a lot; I feel much more comfortable when Ethan's handling the ball.

Drew can def distribute too though.

i think you're both right. mojo, EA makes some inexplicable decisions some time as a point like picking up the ball or leaving his feet to dish in the lane. you just dont do that at point.

but he's improving on that with the more and more time on the floor and the more the ball in his hands.

the converse is true for drew. he's much less confident in his decision-making when he's not handling the ball a ton (universal for 99% of the world).

A man can only dream as to what our team looks like with EA, Tahj and Drew all firing on the same night...

Plus Baumann. He is bound to have an explosive game sooner than later.

Yeah I'm not sure about Bauman. His game seems a little one dimensional at the moment and, like Max, the game seems a bit fast for him.

Unlike Max, Bauman has shown that he can drop shots, but I'd still ideally like to see him open up his game and show he can dribble and drive too. Unfortunately, I fear that instinct will take an off season to develop.

He’s got a nice midrange floater that he hit against WSU. I think he used a similar move against UCI. Seems like he’s comfortable shooting off the dribble but isn’t a penetrator or slasher by any means.

odd question here but if we sweep this week.....we will be 19-3. question(s) being "will it be good for us to have a letdown before the big dance? more than 1 letdown?"

being said, sweeping desert schools is arguably the 2nd hardest swing after the LA schools. one could make the case for the mountain schools being 2nd (or oregon schools? eh, whatever....) but arizona & asu when healthy present very different styles (and game planning) and lots of nba-level talent. devils have 3 guys alone that will likely be drafted in the first freaking round (INSANITY).

point: it wont be easy to get to 19-3.

If we sweep the Arizona schools again, then we have to be a tourney lock at that point.

Ideal situation is to keep on winning and winning big. Obviously easier said than done but you want that confidence and momentum to keep on building and growing. Let downs may happen but it can be very negative depending on how the team bounces back from them.
