  • Charge vs Block???

Can somebody explain the criteria to decide between a charge and a block. As I remember the defensive player needed to be “set” in order the get the charge call. That does not seem to be the case anymore. I felt at least some of the charges called in the last game should have gone the other way, but I don’t pretend to be any kind of an expert. In several previous games I recall the announcers also trying to make some sense of the charge/block rule. And I also try to remember these are PAC-12 refs.

FWIW, I thought Arizona got a lot of lucky bounces on rebounds, though no excuse for USC not playing better. Hopefully new come out strong against Oregon and cook the Ducks.

In theory a block occurs when the defensive player establishes position (outside the little arc) and the offensive player initiates contact. How it's applied is a different matter, especially with horrible Pac 12 refs.

Some of the charge and travel calls this season have been utterly ridiculous. But that's the case every season. Now we know it's not the fans pressuring Pac 12 refs to make bad calls, they're just flat out bad at their job.
