  • Post game quotes from Enfield

It was a disappointing effort from our starting 5.

First half we played pretty good defense but our starting 5 just did not play very well at all. Very disappointed.

We have to play better. If you look at our numbers across the board, we can' twin any games if we play like that.

On why he put in Reese Waters.

I put him in because he's supposed to help us and he's been playing well in practice and I got tired of watching our upper class guards miss shots. I wasn't throwing the towel in, I expect him to be a helluva player. I was just getting tired of other guys going 2-10 and having 4 turnovers.

They got off to a hot start in 2nd half. They made a couple shots and then they hit 4 straight 3s on us. That was rough. We were missing free throws. Tajh, who is an 80% FT shooter, missed the front end as we were trying to come back.

We did not play offensive or defensive basketball. Our starting five was very disappointing.

Appreciate the post game quotes. While Enfield is correct in his assessment, I think this is a good example of how saying he was “disappointed” like an archetypal father may not reach these guys. I thought Cronin was out of bounds for ripping specific players in the media after losing to UCR last season but it worked. I’m not saying Enfield should do that, but I hope he has more in store. It seemed like it worked after the AZ game, but the team was psychologically crushed in the CO game and did not recover tonight.

You shouldn't have to do your coaching in public.

I am an Enfield supporter but maybe he should teach these players how to run an offense? Relying on one on one basketball is never going to win for you unless you have a Michael Jordan type of your team. How many possessions tonight with a shot being taken without even a single pass? Too many! No spacing, no ball screens, atrocious shot selection and our 37% shooting and 15% from the three is not an abnormality. This team just cannot shoot the ball consistently well enough to be a top team. Eaddy was pure crap tonight but he is the only reliable shooter we have on the entire team.
I don't know if this team has the fortitude to come back from this and time will tell but watching the opposition shooting threes at a plus 50% clip against us tells me that the effort on the defensive end is not where it was earlier.
Hate being so negative but that was just a disgusting display of basketball for a team looking to win a championship. I think most of us know that isn't happening. So disappointed!

I second that notion of running sets & having our shooters go through multiple screens to get their open looks. How many times have we seen Noah have to put the ball on the floor & do a step back maneuver to get his shot off, same with Drew. Maybe a big part of if is not having a true PG? I want to see pick & rolls, pick & pop’s and a distributor who can drive & kick. We saw some of that with Drew earlier in the season but his play making, stat stuffing ability all of a sudden as diminished. I can’t help but think this program won’t be able to take that next step until they can bring in a top tier PG or be able to develop one. Let’s hope they can.

Yes, we need a top point guard. I'd rather have a 5* point guard then a 5* center. Anderson is a backup point guard on a good team, nothing more. He looks two steps slower this year.

Maybe. We had a top flight point guard in JMac. But this team is better than those teams. Sometimes it's the sum of the parts that puts a team over the hump. But I agree it would make things easier to have a top PG.

Honestly depends on your coaching style. Phil Jackson sure did it a lot. I don’t know it’s always the best approach, but whatever went on behind the scenes during the last two games didn’t work either unfortunately.
