  • Something I Agree With

Saw this post on a Reddit thread. I agree with everything it said so I just feel the need to copy and paste it here.

"This team tricked me into thinking they were good. They actually were for a bit, great on analytics, passing the eye test, playing excellent defense. And for once in this program's life under Andy Enfield, they were actually running an offense! Well, all that's gone to shit again. This team is back to every talented Enfield team: excellent on defense because of length, having no clue on offense.

Ethan Anderson is a black hole on offense who has more confidence in his own dogshit ability to drive to the basket (gets blocked half the time) than he does in running sets on offense. Eaddy goes cold and the whole team goes cold because they don't have a clue. They can't even hit free throws. The worst part is he isn't even the only one who does this; half our offensive possessions is a player dribbling up to the top of the key, wasting a few seconds dribbling, then deciding he's prime LeBron and trying to drive through three players to the hoop.

Shame on me for actually being excited about this team for once, they're frauds again. Just like always."

This is why USC has one of the worst fan bases in college basketball. USC is 19-6. Support the team, don't act entitled.

The reason why USC has no fanbase is because of our continuous letdowns. It isn't the fans' fault that this team collapses in February. If we had a good coach and a consistent team that could actually finish out a season, fans would keep getting blue balled and subsequently have a little faith in the team. I'll support the team by saying Enfield needs to go. That is what we need to do in order to stop having this from happening. It is insane because year after year Enfield does the same shit leading to the same shitty results. This year was our year, and we are on track to blow it.

No, the reason USC has no fanbase is because the fanbase doesn't know anything and panics at the first sign of adversity. "the same shit leading to the same shitty results" is what you call a 19-6 season where we will go to the NCAA tournament? Really? Are you aware of USC basketball history?

Goodness gracious. A bad road trip and everyone is jumping off the bandwagon. Win the next two and then lets take the pulse around here. This has still been a great season so far.

Panics at the first sight of adversity? This shit has been happening for the whole Enfield era. It is just pattern recognition. Plus when was the last time we made it to the sweet 16? 2007? This team has been consistent in being mediocre the past decade, and if we want to take it to the next level, we need a coach that will want to take it to the next level.

Not a bad road trip, an atrocious one. This late-season collapse has been happening a lot during the Enfield era, so it is disappointing, yet no surprise to see it happen again. It hurts even more BECAUSE we had such a great season. Needed to finish off strong and at this rate, we are doing the opposite of that.

Enfield had a losing record in February coming into this season. We are 6-3 this year. Did the pattern continue? Nope. This is what I mean by a non-knowledgeable fan base. You are apparently unaware of USC basketball history if you think that the consistent 20 win seasons and tournament berths most of the time under Enfield the last 6 years is "mediocre."

More wins in a 3 4 5 and now a 6 year period in USC basketball history. Will win 20 plus games
for the 5th time in 6 years from a coach who inherited the worst top tier basketball program in the
country and some of you are whining. Also having played Monday night then going to two
mil high schools is a also a real problem. We played like a team who didn’t have its legs
                    thanks Pac 12

Strongly agree. 4 games in 7 days, plus two games at elevation. We had no legs and it showed. We'll bounce back with next two games in LA and rest.

Yeah, this is melodramatic bull****. I'm on reddit everyday, it's full of kids whining about how the world sucks or things won't go their way.

The basketball sub is a cesspool of self-contemptible posts about how OP's favorite team played like shite today. It's college basketball: all teams play like shite everyday, and the winner is the least shite team of them all. That's what makes it fun.

Let's break this down: "We start with USC tricked me into thinking they were good..." - WE ARE GOOD. We have played GOOD BASKETBALL MANY TIMES, and no amount of dog**** performances thereafter (like tonight) will change the fact that we have - even if for minutes at a time, played good basketball. And those minutes are what I live for.

Ethan isn't a *black hole* - he's just not as good as he should be, not in shape, and gave way too little effort tonight. Against a good oregon team on Monday he had 8 assists.

Our Free throws suck. We have won 19 games despite shooting 50% from the stripe. That doesn't say a lot about us, but the fact that we can beat 19 teams shooting that ft% means we're pretty damn good at something else.

Tonight was a "bad performance" amongst 19 good ones scattered over the last 6 months. You're really trying to say our true team is "tonight" and the other 19 were... lucky?

First off, I am not talking about a winning or losing record in February, I am talking about a late-season collapse. Which has happened in the Enfield era all but two seasons (2019-2020 and 2017-2018). USC overall is 1623–1208 in the 115 seasons we have played. That puts our average record at 14-10. Enfield is 132-102 in the 8 seasons he has coached. That leaves his average at about 17-13. So is this season an above-average season compared to other seasons? Yes. But has Enfield stepped this program up above what we used to be? No. That is what I mean when I say we have been "mediocre" over the past decade. We are mediocre by both USC and NCAA standards.

Have you even followed USC basketball before Andy Enfield? Enfield is not a great coach but has done a wonderful job with a program that gets no support by students, alumni, or university. There are MANY programs much lesser then USC that gets fantastic support, win or lose.

Completely ignorant post that affirms that you have zero knowledge of USC basketball history.

Enfield inherited a last place program. The last five years heading into this one he's averaged 22 wins per year. Best stretch of wins in school history. After this year, he will have earned 4 NCAA tourney berths in 6 years, only time that has happened in school history. He's still in the running to win a conference title, something that has not happened at this last stage of a season since 1992. USC basketball has been historically below average. Enfield has made USC a legitimate and steady program.

Get out of here with your nonsense.
