  • Revenge of the Afflalo game!

Circa mid-2000, we had a rivalry game with UCLA where we led the entire game until Arron Afflalo hit a jumper near the free throw line when there was only seconds remained to gave UCLA the first lead and, seconds later, the game. That was really heartbroken from a USC fan's point of view.

Today, We execute a SWEET revenge, an exact mirror image of that game!

    Fight on!

UCLA had just done that to ASU where they took the first lead at 1.4 seconds, crazy. Karma?

Yes, the ending of last year's game was as thrilling, but we actually led the game most of the time until UCLA tied us and eventually took the 1-point lead by free throw with about 8 seconds remaining. At that time, I was thinking not again, not a replay of the Afflalo game where a team wins by only leads the last few seconds of that game. Then Jonah Mathews took that legendary three pointer and the rest is history.

Today, I think we just lead in less than 2 seconds. Thank god they are the last 2 seconds of the game. Huge win!

I was at Pauley in the early 2000s when Billy Knight drained a buzzer beater from 3 to beat our Clancy/Blu/Granny team. The last 2 years have gone a long way towards exorcising those demons.

Btw, we are now 9-5 in our last 14 against the Bruins including the last 4 in a row and 5 of the last 6. So important to keep that going.
