  • We have an Isaiah Mobley problem

Today, he was a -15 in 19 or so minutes, yet Andy keeps playing him, game in and game out. This dude needs to be treated like Baumann. He certainly should not start, and if he comes in and plays poorly, he should more or less be benched for the entire game, save for scenarios when he's giving his brother or Chevez a breather. He is an absolute black hole on offense and he's good for at least one offensive foul a game. What intrigues me is that he often gets into decent positions, but has all the finesse of a brick wall when he's in close. The amount of shots he misses at point blank range is extraordinary. The other issue is that he's an atrocious free throw shooter, so whenever he gets fouled it typically turns into a bad possession.

Also, because Isaiah exists, Andy never goes a small ball rotation. It'd be wonderful to play some combo of Evan, Max, Drew, Ethan, Isaiah White, and Tahj for extended periods but it doesn't happen.

We need Andy to make some tough decisions and start Goodwin. Let Isaiah earn his minutes with rebounding, defense, and the occasional (read very occasional, please don't shoot often) post up move / dunk.

Agree completely. Isaiah is a liability on offense, which is hard to fathom for someone his size. Goodwin gives us more, and should play more minutes.

I love Goodwin, but he’s not the post defender Isaiah is, and he shots about the same FT%. Isaiah is in a slump, but he’s had some great games this season too.

We are lucky to have 3 big men like this. Goodwin and I Mobley should be splitting time evenly.

Honestly, if it were an even split I probs wouldn't complain. I'm just getting tired of Chevez playing well and Andy pulling Chevez to put back in Isaiah.

Over the last 5 games of the regular season Isiah played 41% of the minutes and Goodwin played 39%.

Let’s just be happy we have depth at the forward position. Isiah and Goodwin have both come up big in spots this season

I agree. Goodwin needs to start. I Mobley has been bad since the AZ game. Not sure if he's injured or what's going on.

I've gotta say...I agree. He is shooting 29% from the floor since the Arizona game. Goodwin is shooting 71% since then with almost as many shots. This is kind of a no brainer.

Yep, and I know this post was overly harsh on Isaiah, and the issue isn't really with him. It's all related to the fact that Andy plays him 20+ minutes a game no matter what. For instance, against Utah Chevez played only seven minutes! Meanwhile, Isaiah played 24 minutes and he shot 2-8 from the field and made 2-5 free throws.

That's why I'm saying he needs to be treated like a bench player and earn his minutes. He was great against ASU (who literally have no bigs) but his last four games against good opposition the dude is shooting 8-28 with 8 turnovers to 3 assists. He is currently not playing well enough to deserve 20 minutes a game.

He just shoots too much and plays way too much iso-ball. It's funny because his first two baskets today were very much in the rhythm of the game and then he started forcing things and it went terribly.

Andy has said in an interview before that he believes I Mobley is our best interior defender. His positioning is pretty good, but his ability to finish is lacking.

I don't think I Mobley is BAD, but I do agree that Goodwin, in many games, has played better, so I would like to see him play more. I just dont think Goodwin is as consistent on defense, which is our team's personality.

Agree completely with SirHeftyBoy. Best game USC played this season was the rout of Oregon when Isaiah didn't play! Goodwin gives USC an aggressive physical player inside the team needs since Evan isn't that type of player.

Also, the less minutes for Max A. the better. Can't believe when suggested USC should have gone after Juzang, some members here wrote no because they feared Max would leave. Big mistake not recruiting Juzang and Jarod Lucas, who would have been perfect complements to Evan Mobley with their accurate outside shooting. Not saying they are great players the way teams pack the lane USC wing players get open shots and these guys can hit them (a la Steve Kerr not great player but good omplement to Michael Jordan).

Lucky Juzang out as well as Jalen Hill and leading scorer Chris Smith has missed most of season. And same with ASU and Stanford stars being out when Trojans played them. But it was time for USC to get some breaks after losing Melton for a year and going back to when the great Paul Westphal missed most of his senior year with an injury after leading USC to 24-2 season as a junior.

If only we had Juzang and Lucas, we might’ve swept UCLA, smashed Oregon and gone 15-5 in conference.

We complain about ball movement enough already as it is, can’t imagine how Juzang would fit in with this group. UCLA fans don’t even want him touching it as much as he does since he’s definitely a hero ball guy.

Very classy to come back here and own it. You weren’t way wrong at the time, but I now trust these coaches. They have done an incredible job against some great coaches in he tourney.
