  • Where will Evan rank in Trojan hoops lore?

For my money it's still completely up in the air. He's obviously a very good player and he'll go onto make gazillions of dollars in the NBA. But how will SC fans remember him relative to Miner, Westphal, DeRozan, etc.? I say much depends on the next couple weeks.

If he's relatively quiet in Vegas and Indianapolis and we don't make a memorable run in either, he won't end up that high on my list. He averages 16 & 8, which are good but hardly legend numbers. Didn't Jaha Wilson put up similar stats? In addition, he only averaged 13 & 7 on our disappointing 3-3 stretch run that left us short of the regular season title we've been waiting so long for. Yes, I know he gets double teamed a lot. So did Lew Alcindor and every other good big man in college basketball history. In this scenario Evan would end up in my second tier category of very good but not elite players.

On the other hand, if he leads us to some memorable moments the next couple weeks it'll be a different story. He'll definitely jump into the elite group and might even get consideration for top player of my era.

    What's it gonna be Evan?

I remember DeRozan had kind of a quiet regular season before he exploded in the pac 10 tournament. Hoping Evan can have a similar showing.

Tough crowd. It really is amazing how people are unable to do basic research.

Evan is averaging 16-9-3, which I’m sorry is not also what Jaha Wilson did at USC. Mobley is the only Division I player to be averaging at least 16.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 assists. I believe he's one of 3 players to do this in the last 30 years in CBB. Evan also leads the team in FG% and minutes and is one behind the team lead in steals. He is also top 4 in assists.

He will go down as the most talented basketball player to suit up for USC and one of its most dominant big men who played well on both sides of the floor. Without him, we probably really do finish sixth in this league if not worse.

He has a legit shot to be POY, DPOY and FOY in this conference, which has never been done.

Jaha Wilson....SMH. Stop with the disrespect.

Good post. I really don’t know where the misconception is towards Evan being a very productive scorer. This is a kid who only averaged just about 17 pts/game as a senior in High School.

I’ve watched a good amount of his games, and he isn’t going to demand the ball or take the last shot of a close game just yet but he’s built different from your ordinary “big man” than obviously a Lew Alcindor.

The game has changed so much over the course of the years, even in a span of 5 years. Evan brings a lot to the table & he doesn’t necessarily have to score a ton of points to dictate the outcome of a game.

Somewhere between Big O and DeRozan I'm guessing? I don't expect him to have as acclaimed a pro career as Demar since the NBA is more offense oriented, though I could see him giving back to the University a lot just like Demar.

He's vastly more physically gifted than derozen and seems to have his same quiet, no nonsense, nose to the grindstone work ethic. He will be the best pro out of the school in recent history.

I love Vucevic, Mobley is much more gifted than than vucevic

IF porter can get his maturity together the best pros to come out of SC in recent years will be (in order)

            Mobley
Porter (if he can't mature, move him to the bottom of this list)
            Derozen
            Vucevic
            BigO
            Swaggy
            Taj
            Mayo

If the season stopped today, he'd be top 3, probably top 2 on my list.

Evan is right there with some of our best. He is still so young, I expect him to develop a great deal at the next level, but he's a special kid. I'm not convinced his pro career will be much different than Nicola's, but that's nothing to shake a stick at. Vujavic has been an underrated top-tier pro for many years (21 ppg, 11 reb, 3.7 a, 1 stl, 1 blk 1.5 to and 38.3% from 3PT on 4+ attempts per game the past 3 seasons alone in his 10 year career.) Much like Nicola, Evan is just a quality individual. Wherever he lands in the NBA, his team will adore him.

He'll always be tied to our greatest players, as his season has been nothing short of amazing. His legacy in Trojan lore, however, will be tied to how he leads this team in the post season. He's a ridiculous talent. I just want to see him kick some freaking tail in the pac-12 and dominate other bigs more on the offensive end. He should be shooting 10+ FTs per game minimum. That'll tell me he's going at it. That's my barometer.

His aggressiveness needs to continue to rise like the tide. ...and you know what they say about a "rising tide..."

            ✌😎

I think that's a spot on evaluation. I feel like Vucevic gets undersold a little because he played on mediocre KO squads - he was such a rock for the team and was right there with Derrick Williams for conference player of the year. He was just money when you needed a bucket or a board.

I am seriously hoping for a SYRACUSE/MELO finish for Evan and USC! One can dream right?

Trojan2011 ah Derrick Williams. In an alternate reality, he and Nick would have been teammates and would have led us to a Final 4!

He will soon be DPOY and Freshman of the year (I think Wright gets player of the year), so I’d say he will go down as an all time great for us.

I think Duarte will be POY but I'd have no problem with Wright getting it. Both terrific players.

I give Wright the edge for more games played.

I think Top 3 easy. Finish out with a solid tournament run and he moves to the Top for me. Needs to show some leadership. Has the potential to have a great NBA career if he keeps improving.

Evan Mobley is number 1. Here comes the evidence:

"USC freshman forward Evan Mobley was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, the first player to ever win all three awards in the same season, and head coach Andy Enfield was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year, it was announced by the Conference today (March 9). Mobley is only the second player from a major conference to win all three of these awards in the same season, joining Anthony Davis of Kentucky (SEC) who achieved the feat in the 2011-12 season.

Additionally, Mobley was named first-team All-Conference and guard Tahj Eaddy was named second-team All-Conference. Mobley was also named to the Pac-12’s five-player All-Defensive Team and the five-player All-Freshman Team."
