  • USC downs #25 WSU (Welcome Back Pili!)

It was a super tough last few minutes, but USC was able to squeeze by its first ranked opponent of the season. And, best of all, they were able to bring back Pili, whose season debut was clutch in today's W in overtime.

Areas for improvement: (1) Rebounds! They gave WSU way too many chances at the end there. (2) And, more importantly: CLOSING! As with Colorado, USC let WSU back into the game and let them believe they could win it after trailing by 12 in the 4th. Those last 13.1 seconds were a nail biter especially since WSU had all the momentum. USC allowed a steal off the inbound with under 6 to go, and right before that the WOT could have closed it but allowed WSU to force a 10-second violation. (3) Last-second foul on #5 in OT. That could have been a 4-point play. But with 4.5 seconds left, it wasn't enough after Jackson's rebound.

Positives: (1) Sanders has been a gem all season long. Now a regular started, she's making the right plays and serving as a mentor to these young players. (2) Overtime play. Sometimes teams will have lulls, even the best of them. That said, this is something team leaders and a good coaching staff need to find a way to turn around, which is what happened today. (3) Fouls have also been a strength. Murekatete fouled out, and on the 'SC side, they committed only a few to prevent WSU from getting to the line. (4) Jackson and Rogers did what was needed in overtime to secure the victory.

Next up UC Riverside on Sunday! Fight On!

Great win for WOT. Bit of a winning streak. Hopefully they can keep it up as they continue to get healthy. Pili is a great player, might be one of the best in the country. Fight on!

It was great to just see Pili on the court. Obviously she is very rusty and is being eased into things by the staff, but in her 13.5 minutes, she had 7 pts, 2 rebs, 1 asst, 1 steal and 1 block and zero turnovers - so very active and she definitely commands attention from the opponents. For her time on the court she was a +16, highest on the team. Jordan Sanders proved once again that she is our best scorer and most consistent player. I hope she takes advantage of the free year of eligibility she gets this season, by returning next season. She is a key to our success.

Overall, I was pleased with the effort by the team. I question the strategy by Trakh of milking the whole shot clock every trip down the floor with a 12 point lead and still 6 minutes left. WSU said thank you very much and proceeded to go on a run and come dangerously close to pulling off the victory in regulation time. SC should have had the game salted away and not have had to go to OT. Endya Rogers definitely owned the OT though, scoring 9 points for the Trojans. When she is focused she is deadly.

Agree on the strategy by Trakh. The team lost momentum and the offense stagnated with poor last second shots several times. It almost cost them the game.

Really big win. Obviously getting Pili back was a big deal. Our depth and talent can finally be displayed on a weekly basis. Looking forward to seeing what a fully loaded team looks like by the end of the season.

This is one thing that I've been a little confused about. So, this year is definitely a freebie, even for graduate transfers? If so, I'd love LOVE for Sanders to come back. She has been such a great addition to this team.

Yes, my understanding is that all players, even grad transfers are on a freebie year this season (in all sports)
