  • What is there left to say?

Totally outclassed, outexecuted and outcoached. We just got a can of whoop ass from a superior well-coached team, that I guess we can aspire to be like some day, but not with this coach. I am not one of those fairweather fans that is trigger happy on firing coaches, but I think we all can admit that Mark Trakh is not the one to take us to the next level. He has had enough time to show what he can do, but it hasn't really improved much over his second tenure here. In his 25 seasons of coaching college basketball, he has won 7 conference titles (4 with Pepperdine and 3 with NM State), but none at SC in 9 years. In fact after his first 2 seasons in his first stint where SC made the NCAA second round, SC finished 5th, 4th and 4th in conference and in his current stint SC has finished 7th, 9th, 7th and now 8th in the conference. The rest of the conference is getting better and SC is kind of stuck in a rut. Close losses have happened, but so have embarrassing/humiliating blowouts like a 42 point beating by the bruins (93-51) and this monstrosity (92-53). These two games happened in just 3 games played, separated only by what now appears to be a fluke performance against ASU where, despite giving up 20 offensive rebounds and grabbing only 1, it was a victory because of an amazing 65% shooting performance.

I think it is time for Mike Bohn to take a hard look at the performance of this team against the backdrop of a once great program and make the necessary changes to bring SC back to being competitive with the best teams in the conference. Yes, there were challenges with Covid and injuries, yes there have been injury issues every season since Trakh came back, but other teams have had to deal with this too and seemingly have done a better job. Not being embarrassed shouldn't be our goal, building the program up and challenging for conference titles and trips to the NCAA should be. Bohn and Sosna have done an amazing job with providing all of the support the football program needs to be successful, it's time to turn a little focus on women's basketball.

    Fight on........

Couldn't agree more. After the last five games, with a full squad, I don't see how anyone could argue with the need for change.

I think one thing many of us on this board and the previous board fell into was the mantra of "next year." I kept thinking with certain players back from injury, or with certain recruits, etc. that "next year" would be a different experience, but that's definitely not the case. Trakh has had more than enough chances, and it's time USC truly invest in the team. The team hasn't made the NCAA tournament since 2014. Before that, they reached the tournament in 05 and 06. Before that, it was 97. This team has made so few tournaments and has gone through so many coaches. You would *never* know that this is the same team of the 80s and early 90s. On that same note, the WOT haven't beaten Stanford since 2014, and before that it plenty of years had passed before the win. And, UCLA has been clearly dominating the WOT over the last decade.

At this same time 4 years ago, Cynthia Cooper-Dyke was let go. She was in her 4th season and the team had reached its loss in the Pac-12 tournament. The next day, she resigned. We'll see if that same thing happens this time around, though Bohn can't allow the disaster of last time's hiring process to hurt the team's image again.
